Photo Upload Sites And
Their History
There are all sorts of photo
upload websites available today. They all make it so
much easier for people share photos with each other and in some
cases make it even more convenient for people to do business.
Uploading photos to websites is also something that has been
made easy to do. In the past, people had to rely on their HTML
skills to be able to display pictures on their web spaces.
Today, there are many websites that we can choose from to store
our pictures on.
What Do These Websites
Do?
Picture websites are basically just around
to hold pictures for internet users. You can liken these
websites to catalogues or picture albums that can be used to
hold all our digital photos. The photos can then be linked to
other websites so that those websites can refer to the album
and be able to display them. There are many of these sites
available on the internet today and some of the most popular
ones give their service for free.
Flickr
If you are an avid internet surfer then
there is no way that you have not heard of the website Flickr
(flickr.com). This photo sharing website is very popular at
present that it even serves as a community website where people
can log on, upload their pictures and share them with other
users of the website. Flickr is one of the earliest photo
upload sites on the Internet and it now boasts of about 2
billion images at present. It was first developed in Canada in
2002 and launched in 2004. For the three years that it has been
in operation, the site has proven that its free photo sharing
service is something sought after by the millions. And why not?
It’s free and if you have a Yahoo mail account, you can sign in
using the same username and password. This makes it easy and
very convenient.
Photobucket
Another photo storage service that is
virtually free is known as Photobucket (photobucket.com). What
makes this unique from other services is that the site also
features video hosting, slideshow creation possibilities, as
well as the ability to store remote avatars (or personal
images) that people use on Internet forums. Photobucket is so
commonly used in other web spaces such as eBay and MySpace.
They offer a whole lot of space for free that can be upgraded
if paid for. However, most users have never really seen the
need to upgrade since the initial offering of 1 gigabyte of
space is more than enough for stored images. Photobucket was
founded in 2003 and as one of the youngest photo sharing sites
on the internet, it might be interesting to note that it could
be one of the most valuable. There were rumors that a media
company wanted to buy out the idea for almost $250 million!
ImageShack
One of the fastest growing web brands, this
image hosting website has remained to be also one of the
busiest. ImageShack (imageshack.us) also made its debut in 2003
like many other hosting websites. All sorts of image file
formats can be stored on this website as long as its digital
and can be read by Internet browsers. These formats include
familiar file extensions such as JPEGs, GIFs, BMPs, SWFs, etc.
Files need to be a certain size for them to be uploaded and
it’s probably this feature that saves the site a lot of space
and more chances of a bigger user base. The site boasts of
100,000 users at its peak time and people can expect to create
their own galleries for their images and image collections.
Photo upload
sites are here to stay as long as digital images are
around. The sites mentioned make it easier for people to store
their pictures. If you haven’t tried any of the service, it’s
suggested that you do to make your internet life even more
useful and convenient.
